SILVANUS Final Event – Contributions and Collaborative Strategies in Advancing Climate and Environmental Policies for Landscape and Community Resilience through Integrated Wildfire Risk Management (IWRM)
The final SILVANUS event entitled “Contributions and Collaborative Strategies in Advancing Climate and Environmental Policies for Landscape and Community Resilience through Integrated Wildfire Risk Management (IWRM)”, organised by the project coordinator Università Telematica Pegaso, marked the end to three and a half years of intense and highly collaborative work between 49 partners from 18 countries. The event took place at the Lazio European Affairs and International Relations Office in Brussels on March 25th.
The project was presented by the SILVANUS Consortium members, showcasing the platform and its components, such as the Fire Detection IoT Device, AR/VR Training for Firefighters, Forward Command Centre and Health Impact Assessment. The citizen engagement campaign, organised by University of Borås, was highlighted by an exhibition of posters, flyers and videos, which included the animated characters Silvanus the Trailblazer and Squee watching over the session. A demo video of the platform developed by ITTI, as operated by an end-user, was also displayed to stakeholders.
The event was introduced by Roberta Pascolini, the Institutional Relations Coordinator of Lazio Region, the hosts of the event, and David Vannozzi, Vice President of International Academic Relations and Development from Multiversity Group. A keynote speech was made by Francesca Di Giuseppe from European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) on the escalating dangers of extreme wildfire and future forecasts. Michele Corleto, the project’s coordinator, explained the main objectives of SILVANUS and their implementation for the 3.5-year duration of the project. The scientific coordinator Krishna Chandramouli has highlighted the key achievements of the project and the potential future of its outputs. External speakers such as Simone Borg, Malta’s Ambassador for Climate Action, Nicolas Faivre from European Research Executive Agency (REA) and Claudia Berchtold, project coordinator of Firelogue enrichened the discussions as panel leaders and contributors on the role of SILVANUS platform in wildfire management.
The comprehensive panel sessions and discussions by SILVANUS members on the platform’s technical advantages such as the decision-support system, the role of artificial intelligence in the platform’s development and policy integration were some of the key highlights of the event.
The event concluded with a letter from the Vice-President of European Parliament Antonella Sberna, supporting and congratulating the project on its successful implementation, emphasising the project’s impact on wildfire management.
